‘Twas the Night Before Election
‘Twas the night before Election, and all through the land,
Everyone was stirring, the rallies were out of hand!
The yard signs were planted in the ground with care,
In hopes that their candidate would win the big chair!
“Our guys behind, we must work harder!”, they all said,
While visions of winning danced in their heads.
With mamma with her walk-book and I with my walk app
Had just hunkered down for neighborhood walking asap!
When out from the polls there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
Away to the Internet I flew like a flash,
Scoured social media to see if my guy crashed.
The numbers were moving from high to low,
I could not keep up with what poll to follow.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a new scandal that caused me to cheer!
Defending the scandals, she had to explain,
I smiled and grinned because the words were in vain.
Defend she tried, the words came so quick,
But the words fell on deaf ears, she was out of tricks.
As old mailers and yard signs in the wind blow,
They take to the sky and up on the roof they do go.
But the roof-top sound I heard was not one but two,
Two candidates came down my chimney flue!
Her smile was big, her teeth were all white.
But still she looked sick, something was just not right.
We are stronger together, she wanted me to believe.
Let’s build a bright future, greatness to achieve.
Scandals of emails, servers, and foundations suspiciously funded,
With hand outstretched, my vote she wanted.
Stronger together I can not support,
When all I see is the greed of one who should be in court.
“America first, America great, that’s what I want!”,
Was his chant with the strength of a commandant.
Deals to be made deals to be won,
He had the experience to get things done!
Without corruption, without bribes is he,
A few flaws he has (we have them too) I will agree.
His vision speaks louder than the attacking gongs,
And is evident by the polling throngs.
Political, no. A Washington insider he is not.
This is what America needs, someone who can not be bought.
This businessman has done what many thought not possible,
Bringing thousands from home out to the process political.
As they both sprang away to continue to campaign,
I leave you with this for your decision to obtain.
The future is ours to shape, to you I submit,
We are “A republic if you can keep it.”
Happy voting to all, and to all a good-night!
