Bye, bye, American guys
Trump voters are dying.
Earlier and earlier.
A groundbreaking Princeton University study conducted over the past two years shows a dramatic rise in mortality rates among white American men of middle age, especially those of low education.
How dramatic? In 1999, the mortality rate of middle-aged white Americans without a college degree was 30 percent lower than that of all black Americans. Now, it’s 30 percent higher, said researcher Anne Case.
The reasons? Principally, drug and alcohol abuse and outright suicide.
The root of what Case calls these “deaths of despair”? The socioeconomic collapse of blue-collar maledom, which had its heyday in the 1970s and has fed on resentment ever since.
Enter Donald Trump, who promises to restore the good old days and punish the bad guys and gals that his base blames for its fiscal, physical and psychological misery.
So he proceeds to take away affordable health insurance, start wars to which Trump voters will be expected to send their children and issue licenses for lethal pollution as a jobs program.
Expect the white male death train to pick up steam down the track, the Princeton experts say.
And thank their president for pouring on the coal, pun intended.
Is this a trend for liberals to celebrate? Not if they are worthy of the label in its true meaning. There’s only one species, and no one is safe if part of it is endangered.
The question is, can this endangered species decide to save itself, starting by saying “So long” to its false messiah?
